Just wonder more people got the same nuisance note on the PVR that wants to update the software and post a nice big script in the middle of the screen?
Unfortunately that is also in the middle of the recording and goes un-noticed until you switch on your tv.
I am sure it is possible to generate the code for the "ok" button from the HD PVR every morning at 3 o'clock or whenever you want to update the junk box?

Well to achieve the above you can add the below line to the end of the '/hack/etc/crontab' file:

The above line will send the "OK" command from codeset "30101: DSTV TV1 (HD PVR remote)" at 3am each morning. The unfortunate side effect of this is that you may end up with the interactive menu popping up when there is no message to be cleared. The "Exit" command may be better to send but unfortunately I don't have it's IR command for the HD PVR.

To see what effect the above will have on your decoder, you can run it once off as follows:

Of course you are correct - When sending an "ok" unfortunately generate another unwanted pop-up if the update notice is not there and an "exit" will be the right thing to do.
I am willing to experiment with different codes, but which of that long list of characters represent the actual code?
And what would the typical range be?

The HD PVR is expecting XMP codes, the code used above is the TiVo equivalent of the XMP code and more closely matches the Pronto Hex format. Maybe if you ask "C4" nicely on the DSTV forums, he can PM you the XMP ID's. I can then convert those into the required TiVo format for you to use.

Regarding the "actual code" in the above, it's a little complicated but it comes down to burst pairs and learnt codes are rarely an exact match. The list of button codes in TiVo format for the new DSTV TV1 remotes are as follows:
