Adjusting the picture settings
From TivoZA
The TiVo picture settings can either be adjusted during the "Set recording resolution" step of the "Preparing the TiVo drive" guide or from a bash prompt if your TiVo is already running.
If you wish to adjust the settings and your TiVo is already set up, you can access the bash prompt via telnet. Make sure to have made the enter key adjustment listed in the "How to use Telnet" guide as without it your settings will not be saved. Once you have telnet access, you can simply type:
palmod_config
Either of the above methods will present you with the below menu:
The adjustments you make are instant and don't require you to reboot for them to take effect. Don't forget to select 5 (Save settings and exit) when you are done making the below adjustments, if you wish to cancel any changes simple select 6 (Exit without saving).
Modifying the brightness, contrast and/or colour
To modify the brightness, contrast and/or colour you need to select 1 (Picture Settings), from there you will be presented the choice of "Input Source" you wish to modify. In most cases you will select 2 (Composite Input) but some users may be using the 3 (S-Video Input).
Once you have selected your "Input Source" you will be presented with the menu to adjust either the brightness, contrast or colour. Each option allows you to set the value within a range and you can keep adjusting the value until you are happy with the picture from your TiVo.
Adjusting the resolution and/or the horizontal position
The Palmod Configuration Tool also allows you to make some useful other adjustments to your TiVo picture settings, these are available by selecting 4 (Other Settings).
If you intend on backing up recordings to DVD you may want to adjust the "Horizontal Resolution" to 720 pixels which is the standard width for DVD. This is done by selecting 1 (Horizontal Resolution) then select the appropriate number corresponding to the resolution you wish to use.
The last adjustment you may wish to make is the "Horizontal Shift", selection number 2 off the "Other Settings" menu. This allows you to shift the picture either left or right, unless your picture is obviously out you shouldn't need to make this adjustment. The default is 195 but you can shift it either way if necessary.
