Which remote to get

The TiVo is able to make use of any of the Philips peanut (http://www.weaknees.com/tivo_peanut_remote.php) or Sony (http://www.weaknees.com/tivo_sony_remote.php) remotes. WeaKnees (http://www.weaknees.com/tivo_remote_finder.php) provides a full list of all the remotes available as well as a comparison matrix detailing what remote has what buttons. The DirecTV remotes include a couple more buttons then the standard remotes and the Series 2 remotes include a switch so that you may make use of one remote to control two TiVo's. It doesn't matter which remote you get but it's best not to get the DVD remotes as they include buttons that won't serve any purpose as they are designed for the TiVo's with a built in DVD recorder.

If you are looking for a spare TiVo remote, TiVo Shop (http://www.tivoshop.co.za) sells them in South Africa for R100, Eklectic Systems (http://stores.ebay.com/Eklectic-Systems) usually has remotes for sale at around $9.
