Series 2 in South Africa
From TivoZA
Series 2 TiVo's can be made to fetch the guide data as well as correct the clock settings, both by making use of emuProxyZA, I will be putting up a guide for how this is done at a later stage. However Series 2 TiVo's only accept NTSC 60Hz input. DSTV, M-NET and the free to air channels in South Africa are all broadcast in PAL 50Hz format.
There are converters available on eBay (http://www.ebay.com) but the cheap ones ($30) only convert PAL 50Hz to NTSC 50Hz which isn't accepted as input by the TiVo, this is the same story with most multi-format video machines. There are some other converters selling on eBay (http://www.ebay.com) for $130 or more which can convert Pal 50Hz to NTSC 60Hz but the quality of their output is questionable.
Another option would be to hack the DSTV so that it can output NTSC instead of PAL, DSTV receives MPEG 2 format data which is neither NTSC or PAL specific so it may be possible. I am unaware of how this is done or if this is even possible but if you know how this could be achieved please update the information on this page.
The "Series 2 in SA (http://tivoza.nanfo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=62)" thread provides a more detailed explanation of the current status with regards to using a series 2 TiVo in South Africa.
